Dirty Bird is a group that combines three local blues veterans with a couple newcomers. Dirty Bird is guitarist-vocalist Jay "Bone" Short, bassist "Nuclear" Dave Krempasky, drummer Craig "Sweet P'tater" Waltman, Jay's daughter, singer Rosey "Rose Bud" Short, and harmonica player "Diamond" Dave Thompson. Short and Krempasky have performed together in various bands for about 25 years, including King Biscuit, Blue Willie and the Billtown Jukes, and a latter-day version of Blues and Gasoline. Waltman, who has been playing drums for 25 years, also performs with Shade Tree Mechanics. He is also a well sought-after drum teacher capable of playing a wide range of styles. He is also a very easy-going person, hence the nickname. Rosey Short said she and her father have been performing together at country fairs and in church since she was seven years old. Rosey has made great strides as a vocalist and continues to grow as a performer since she joined the band. Thompson moved to the area about a year and a half ago. After he placed an ad in the Sun-Gazette seeking musicians to jam with, Jay Short gave him a call and they've been a team ever since. Coincidentally, Dirty Bird was the first local blues band Thompson ever saw when he first moved to Williamsport. He thought they were good, but needed a harmonica player.
